The Central Office is hopelessly understaffed to
cope with the existing work and there is grave danger in this,
cspecially in connection with the University's investments and
the control of its varied finances. Unless a constant eye is
kept on the mortgages, the University is liable to lose in ccm 2.
The following staff is essential and will become more urgently
SO even if the expansion of the University oe practically con-
fined to the establishment of a Chinese Faculty and the instruct-
ion of additional students. Any additional scholarships involve
heavy office work.
1.
A Registrar.
2.
A bursar.
3.
in accountant.
4.
A bookkeeper.
5.
6.
8.
A stenographer at the disposal entirely of the Registrar.
A files record clerk.
A full time secretary for the Vice-Chancellor.
An examination clerk.
The bursar's salary must be calculated at $6,000 a year.
The bookkeeper's at $3.000 a year.
The file record clerk at $1,800 a year.
The examination clerk at $1,800 a year.
The Vice-Chancellor's secretary at $6,000 a year.
In order to retain a quite efficient stenographer
now employed in the office it will be necessary to raise his
pay from 180. a month to $250. This represents an additional
annual outlay of $840. The total annual cost of these improve-
ments would ve $11,640. which represents a capital sum of
$200,000 to cover passages and superannuation.
